The Distributed-Denial of Service(DDoS) attack is a computer based malicious attack leads to stop or reduce the functionality of systems or servers or websites for its legitimate users.

This leads to unavail the services of target system to its authorized users.

Sometimes it causes damage or destroy the targeted systems or servers.

Working of DDoS attack:

The Dos attack will done by only on one target system using one system, where as the DDoS can done on one system or server using multiple systems which are compromised by the attacker system.

ree
  • The attacker can compromise the multiple number of systems to create a botnet.

  • Each system in the botnet are known as slave systems.

  • By using these botnets, the attacker can send huge amount of requests to the target system or server.

  • Every system or server has the limitation for the number of requests at a time.

  • After reaching the limit then the server gets stopped providing it's service even to the legitimate users.

The DDos attacks are majorly done in the competition fields, for example:

ree
The Amazon and flipkart are the two different platforms with same functionality that is product sales. The two platforms release the same product with some difference of it's cost. Then the customers are highly choose the lowest cost platform. In this situations one platform will perform the DDoS attack on the other to not harm the other company but to just stop the others service and routing the traffic to their platform for getting more profits.

Prevention measures for DDoS attack:

ree
  • High levels of network security

  • Server redundancy

  • Monitoring website traffic

  • Regular patch up your softwares

  • User training for every employee

  • Implementation of IDS and IPS
